UFC Press Conference Notes

Posted on: July 6, 2008 1:27 am
Edited on: July 6, 2008 1:53 am

11,172 attendance, with $3.3M gate.

Forrest is getting stitched up and may not make the press conference.

Rampage is good natured about the fight, acknowledging that Forrest gave a great performance. He said he didn't underestimate Forrest, and that Forrest's kicks did a lot of damage and made him back off.

Dana White said unequivocally that UFC will not adopt the new weight classes of the new unified rules of MMA. Smart move.

UFC is non-committal as far as the next light heavyweight title. A rematch for Jackson was mentioned, but neither rejected nor embraced. Obviously Chuck Liddell looms if he beats Rashad Evans.

Dana White says Patrick Cote will get a title shot, but acknowledges that the Cote-Almeida fight was boring.

Dana White on blood: "This is fighting. This ain't fucking ping pong.

Fight of the Night: Forrest-Rampage. Submission: Cole Miller. Knockout: Melvin Guillard.

Patrick Cote said he was just following his game plan as far as being more tentative in the standup, and doesn't seem to have any concerns about needing to be more aggressive standing.

Forrest on the number of stitches he received: "I lost count."

That's it for the evening. Thanks everyone for reading.

On Dana and the Jackson rematch

Rampage is much more deserving of the next challenge of the title even if Chuck destroys Rashad Evans.  Chuck needs to sit back and wait for the Rampage / Forrest thing to work itself out.  Of course maybe Dana wants to keep Chuck around and likes his chances better against Forrest than Rampage. (saw that movie and know the ending)  If we're going on last night's championship fight, Forrest is the champ legitimately, but the issue is far from settled.
